About

My name is Lisa Donovan.

I am a humour columnist for a Central Queensland newspaper and as you can see, a wannabe entomologist.  I love all beings, furry and flying, although there are a few I avoid.  I started this page because besides my kids, making people laugh, running, photography, and categorizing my smell collection, I needed another hobby.  Kidding, I just really love bugs.  And honestly, I get tired of explaining things to people in tiny comments on Facebook whenever I post something bug related…so, here ya go.

Hope you like the page.  I’d love to hear your bug stories and of course, see your pics.  I may even post them on the site!  If you want something ID’d, just drop me a line at wannabeentomologist@gmail.com.

It’s nearly Christmas Beetle season again in Queensland 🙂 I emigrated from the UK 8 years ago and I swear almost every day since there has been at least one bug spotted that we can’t identify……sometimes we never see another one like it ever again!

Very cool to meet another introduced species, lol. Well, if you can’t identify something be sure to send my way! 🙂 so many interesting creatures here!

….and so random! One afternoon my daughter was wearing a black top and a brilliant, shiny bright orange bug landed on her with blue spots. It was there for ages and looked like a very attractive ‘living’ brooch!! Never seen another one like it since! We have a saying in our house ‘bug of the day’!

That’s great! Just when I think I’ve seen it all I see something else, I just don’t remember such a variety in the American Midwest lol.
